Day of Judaism On Sunday, 26 January, the annual Day of Judaism was organised by the Resonance Group. The Resonance Group aims to bring Catholics and Jews closer together in order to increase mutual understanding and knowledge about each other. We were warmly welcomed at the Redemptoris Mater seminary on Blankenberg in Cadier en Keer by Rector S. Kielek. After a cup of coffee or tea, we were escorted to the study room. It was remarkable to see the names of the five books of Moses written in Hebrew on the beams in the attic. The national theme of the day was: On the road. Do we choose motorways? Should we take the road less travelled? Judaism and Christianity converge, sometimes in surprising ways. Chief Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs and Bishop Ron van den Hout of Roermond gave speeches. Bishop Ron van den Hout spoke about the conciliar document Nostra Aetate, which was promulgated 60 years ago. The bishop provided explanations and made a few comments. Chief Rabbi Jacobs spoke about anti-Semitism. Where does it come from and how does it manifest itself? The chief rabbi shared his personal experiences with us and what they mean to him. Both speakers emphasised the need for cooperation and mutual understanding. These meetings are a good initiative to achieve this. After the speeches, we were treated to a delicious dinner and the Redemptoris Mater choir sang a number of psalms. Fantastic. We look forward to next year, to another day of Judaism.
